What is a Miniature Siberian Husky?

Miniature Siberian Huskies are intended to look and behave like standard size Siberian Huskies. The Miniature Siberian Husky functions as a smaller-sized version of the Siberian Husky, typically weighing between 15-30lbs. Minihuskies are all the fun of a husky in a much smaller package!

ABOUT

Minihuskies started as a family passion and remains that...

Miniature Siberian Huskies were originally developed by Bree Normandin in 2004. The intention was to develop a breed that maintained the Siberian Husky appearance and temperament but in a much smaller size. One could say that the Miniature Siberian Husky was the original Pomsky as Pomskies were first recorded in 2009. The main difference between the two is that the Miniature Siberian Husky lines include German Spitz and American Eskimo in lieu of Pomeranian (these breeds are now recognized as acceptable breeds in the Pomsky program). Now, that the developer has retired, their development continues under the watchful eye of her family. Our family works diligently as hobby breeders to produce quality Miniature Siberian Husky puppies. Our program wants to stay true to the Siberian Husky temperament and appearance. As hobby breeders, production of puppies is on a limited basis. This is why we maintain an active waiting list of puppy homes.

The puppies are raised underfoot in Western North Carolina. There are no kennels, the miniature huskies enjoy having the typical life of a family dog. Because of this, the dogs are socialized with small children and other pets. Our family maintains a commitment to producing sound puppies that are healthy and happy members of their new families.

Minihuskies is a network of breeders who value small-scale, pet-centered breeding. Our goal is to treat our breeding pets as family companions and with the dignity all life deserves.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

  • How Big Do Miniature Siberian Huskies Get?
The Miniature Siberian Husky averages between 15-30lbs.
  • How Much Can I Expect To Spend?
The total purchase price for a Miniature Siberian Husky varies according to the quality of the puppy in question and how important a particular puppy is for the Miniature Siberian Husky breeding program. We have pups priced as low as $800.00 on occasion (Usually white, agouti, and piebald coloring.) Black and white, red and white, and gray and white pups are typically priced starting at $1200.00, with excellently marked pups being on the higher end of the spectrum.
  • How Can I Get A Miniature Siberian Husky If I Don't Live In NC?
Pickup here in western NC is welcomed & preferred, however, we are able to deliver cargo to most international airports for a fee of $550. If you would like to fly out to pick up your puppy, Asheville Airport (AVL) is the closest airport and Greenville (GSP) or Charlotte (CLT) are the closest larger airports. We also offer an in-cabin flight nanny service that costs $950 if you want your little one transported in loving arms. If you opt for in-cabin or cargo delivery, we require that you be flexible with the delivery date. Please note: in-cabin delivery is not always available so if you are adamant that you would like this option please let us know.
  • What Is Your Health Guarantee?
Before purchasing one of our pups, new moms/dads must agree to "Our Guarantee" which details our terms and what to expect as a new owner. Our pups are not CKC or AKC registered, as the developer wants to retain rights to the breed. We do not provide papers with purchase. We will provide a link to this form once you have chosen your pup. You can preview the form here: https://forms.wix.com/r/6998427562305127396
  • Explain Your Application Process And First Pick Options Better.
Once you apply, your name will be added to our email list. We require an application fee because we want our little ones to go to families who are serious and have put a lot of thought into their purchase. The $150 deposit is non-refundable and does not apply to your puppy purchase. Once a litter is born, we update our website and send out emails to those who have applied and subscribed. If two people on our waitlist want the same puppy, the person who has seniority will have priority. Pick of the Litter allows you to skip the wait and take highest priority. The $600 fee is an extra fee and is not applied toward the total amount. We encourage you to choose this option if you have specific preferences, especially if you are looking for a black and white coat color and/or colored eyes. Note: We cannot guarantee your place if you do not respond to our emails promptly. We generally allow First Picks to choose as late as a week after the puppy's eyes are open (3 weeks old) then we send out email notifications to those who have applied regarding our available puppies. On a separate note, while we can provide an idea regarding eye color, we cannot guarantee eye color since it is possible that a puppy's eye color can change.

MinKi has turned out to be a very sweet, very active and goofy boy. He's not been super easy to train (but what husky is...) yet I still think I will be able to get him CGC certified since he can be so attentive at times. His markings are very handsome as well. He has turned out to be a chestnut-brown little guy with hazel eyes. He will probably be close to 30 lbs (24 lbs at 6 months old).

The Miniature Siberian Husky averages between 15-30lbs. The Miniature Siberian Huskies generally retain the same disposition as their larger counterparts. They are known for their friendly, outgoing, and social personalities. They are intelligent, energetic, and have a playful nature. Mini Huskies are typically good with families, including children and other pets, although proper socialization is essential. The color variations are typical of the standard Siberian Husky, with the coat lengths varying between short and mid-length (similar to a Pomsky but not as fluffy). The Miniature Siberian Husky breeding program was selective and includes Siberian Husky, German Spits, and American Eskimo. Including at least three breeds is important to reducing genetic problems.

Pomskies typically range in size from small to medium, with variations depending on the size of the Pomeranian and Husky parents. On average, they weigh between 10 to 30 pounds (4.5 to 13.5 kilograms) and stand around 10 to 15 inches (25 to 38 centimeters) tall at the shoulder. Pomskies can vary in appearance, with some resembling miniature Huskies and others leaning more towards the Pomeranian side. They are known for their fluffy coats, expressive faces, and energetic personalities. Later generations usually have less variation in size.

The Alaskan Klee Kai was developed by Linda Spurlin in the 1970s in Alaska. The breed was created by selectively breeding Siberian Huskies to create a smaller version of the breed. Spurlin also introduced American Eskimo Dog and Schipperke bloodlines to further downsize the breed while maintaining its Husky-like appearance. Alaskan Klee Kais come in three size categories: Toy, Miniature, and Standard. The Toy size stands between 13 to 15 inches (33 to 38 centimeters) tall, the Miniature size stands between 13 to 15 inches (33 to 38 centimeters) tall, and the Standard size stands between 15 to 17 inches (38 to 43 centimeters) tall at the shoulder. They typically weigh between 10 to 20 pounds (4.5 to 9 kilograms), with the Toy size being smaller and the Standard size being larger.
