Getting the right puppy is important. You’re going to want to make sure your puppy temperament matches your activity level and situation. This will make life much easier for your puppy and your family. Here are a few points to remember when it comes to picking out a miniature siberian husky puppy for your family.
What Type of Temperament Do You Need?
If your family is sedentary, you’re not going to want a puppy that is always on the go. An active puppy with lots of energy will not get the care he or she needs and may resort to problem behaviors due to frustration. Sedentary families need to be looking for a pet that is more laid back and calm, while active families should be matched with a pup that has a more active disposition.
Should You Get One Puppy or Two?
Miniature huskies are pack creatures. If you’re a workaholic, you may not need to get a puppy because you could end up with problem behaviors because your puppy misses you. However, long hours can be overcome if you get two puppies or you already have a dog or cat in your home. This is an important factor to consider before you decide to get on our wait list.
What’s Your Puppy Preference?
Everyone has their own idea of what the perfect miniature husky looks like. You may want a male or female puppy, or you may be concerned over eye color or markings. Here are some things to consider when you’re deciding on what preferences to list for your puppy.
Currently, we are not allowing reservations based on eye color. This does not mean you have to accept a puppy with eye color you are not pleased with. The only reason we no longer allow reservations based on eye color is that eye color cannot be guaranteed as the dog ages. In fact, the puppy’s eyes can change color even after one year of age. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT A BROWN EYED PUPPY IF YOU WANT BLUE EYES. You are free to refuse or accept any puppy you are offered. Do note that blue eyes are the most commonly reserved eye color and that wait times for blue eyed puppies may be longer. Blue eyes are a recessive trait and parents with blue eyes can have puppies with brown eyes.
Coat color can change throughout the course of your dog’s life. People also have their own ideas as to what constitutes red and what is apricot. Coloring is subjective. This is the main reason why we take lots of pictures and videos of puppies so buyers can select the precise color desired. Buyers who prefer black and white coats may have to wait longer. Black and white markings are the most requested type of coat color.
There is virtually no difference in male or female puppies besides the fact that females can have puppies. Females are not more loving than males. Females are requested more often than males. The wait time for a female may be longer than a male.
Flexibility is the Key
If you’re hoping for a puppy in a short time frame, getting a miniature husky may not be a realistic desire unless you choose to purchase pick of the litter. However, if you are flexible in your wishes and don’t have specific preferences for eye color, coat color, or sex, people have been known to get a pup
Pick of the Litter
As of May, 2015 due to multiple requests, we are now allowing buyers to bypass the wait list:
It is possible to bypass the wait list by paying for pick of the litter. A $600 fee is charged for this position and it is not deducted from the total purchase price. This means you get first pick out of the next litter born. You can pass on puppies and your first pick will carry until you find the puppy you desire. You will be contacted by phone immediately when puppies are born before puppies are posted to the forums. Everyone has the opportunity to choose this option, however, we only offer pick to one person at a time. This position can only be occupied by one person until the pick is chosen.
Pick of the Litter is Currently Open
Picking out a new puppy isn’t rocket science but it can seem like a daunting task. Just remember these guidelines when you’re listing your puppy preferences during the miniature husky reservation process and you’ll be well on your way to choosing the perfect mini husky companion for your family.
